Christopher Joseph Delgado grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He began playing the trumpet in the fourth grade under the tutorage of lead jazz trumpeter, J.J. Martin. He would go on to attend both the Bak Middle School of the Arts and the Alexander W. Dreyfoos High School of the Arts in Palm Beach County. During this time, he studied with both Tye Riter and Alex Wiener at Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA). In his junior and senior years of high school, he became a guest-member of PBA’s Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble.
Delgado went on to pursue his Undergraduate degree at Grand Valley State University and his Master’s degree at SUNY Purchase Conservatory where he studied with Graham Ashton and Raymond Mase. At Purchase, his recitals consisted mainly of his original arrangements—including a complete showcase recital of his Debussy arrangements entitled When Debussy and Delgado Collide.
Delgado continued his musical education at Rutgers Mason Gross where he earned his Doctorate in Musical Arts under Kenneth DeCarlo, David Krauss, and Dr. Rebecca Cypess. His Lecture Recital paper, Theoretical Orientations of Historically Informed Trumpet Playing, questions the concepts of authenticity in performance practice as it relates to trumpet playing.
Delgado currently works as a full time Administrative Coordinator for the Rutgers Mason Gross Music Department. He is also the MGSA Brass Coordinator, under Area Head Kenneth DeCarlo. He has both a private studio and is the head trumpet instructor at Rutgers Community Arts. Delgado freelances in New York and New Jersey as both a modern and natural trumpet player. Most recently he has been working with the American Ballet Theatre at Lincoln Center and the American Symphony.
